When you think of caring for your skin, you first jump to solving what you feel is problematic right about, right?
Well, the journey to good, healthy skin begins before you apply anything. Your skin is about you as a whole person and recognising that what is beautiful about you is more than what you see on the outside.
That said, skin still plays a major role that we know contributes to confidence which translates to happier days and closer, more meaningful relationships. When you look and feel good, it shows everywhere not only through your skin.
And then there is the transition from winter to summer, and making sure your skin is ready for that switch too. A time to brave the elements and their effect on your skin.
With the warmer months already present and the days only getting hotter, you’re going to want to be outside more and more spending time with family and friends brunching under the sun or on the beach. However, it’s important to really prepare your skin – the largest organ on your body – for the consequences of sunnier, dryer days.
Whatever else you do in your routine you must remember to also be intentional. Because being intentional is also a way to care for yourself, and love yourself. You have to be present for yourself in the moment. Once you are ready and focused on being present in your body you can start to address your skin’s concerns.
Hydration
The number one rule of a good skincare routine – besides keeping it short and being intentional – is to drink lots of water. Brighter, hydrated skin begins from the inside out and is supported by every glass of water you have each day. So, drink up. For an extra boost of hydration and protection, you can help protect your skin from the adverse effects of environmental stressors with a moisturising cream.
Product: Moisturising Day Cream (SPF30) – for soft, hydrated skin.
Sun Damage & Pigmentation
Next is sunscreen. Whether the sun is out or not that day its rays can still cause damage that result in the premature appearance of the visible signs of ageing on the skin, like lines and wrinkles. After your routine in the morning, put on a good SPF to protect your beautiful face – and the rest of your body. Sunscreen is your first line of defence against pigmentation or darkening the tone of sensitive areas of your face.
Product: Sunbright 50 (100ml) – protects your skin with a water-resistant, non-greasy formula, which offers you high UVA/UVB protection to help protect you from the visible effects of photo ageing.
Acne
Another main concern for skin in the warmer months is acne breakouts. The combination of makeup, oil and, perspiration clogs pores and causes breakouts. Ensuring you wash your face twice daily already reduces the chance of a breakout. Following that, make use of a gentle cleanser to remove impurities stuck deep within your pores. Additional treatments such as micro-needling have proven benefits of reducing the appearance of scarring and marks that may have been left with acne-prone skin.
Product: Cleansing Kit, Normal to Combo Skin (Home Spa Device + Cleanser) – input smart skincare and output radiant, healthy-looking skin.
Treatment: Micro-needling (4 x treatments) – improve the appearance and texture of your skin by minimising stretch marks, scars, wrinkles and other skin concerns.
Dryness and Skin Irritation
Due to heat, your skin may lose its natural oils due to heat and humidity, which can cause dryness and irritation. Use moisturising products appropriate for your skin type and a mild cleanser. To get rid of dead skin cells, you might also want to exfoliate once or twice per week.
Ultimately, skincare is self-care and should be part of your way of being like brushing your teeth. Be kind and gentle first and see your skin blossom after – that will always be when you are most beautiful. Love the skin you’re in through summer and beyond.
